The Astrology Chart and the Wheel of Fortune

I’ve been dwelling upon the idea of life patterns and their repetitious nature. The wheel of fortune archetype from the Tarot is a good representative, or symbol of this issue. The issue being repetitive behaviors or experiences. Over the years, I’ve found that I often seem to fall into or become trapped in scenarios that are repetitions of past dramas. The settings, characters, costumes and times change; but it really the same event. Just as that wheel keeps going around and around those events seem to keep coming up over and over. However, I have discovered along the way that once I see the pattern I can anticipate it’s reoccurrence, and take steps to get off that merry go round. A new and different response can be a wonderful experience of releasing karma and gaining new freedom.

Which brings my attention to another wheel, the astrology chart is also a wheel of sorts, constantly moving and changing, creating complex patterns and possibilities. Those possibilities can suggest empowering solutions and changes that one can focus on in order to move past “karma” into a life of greater freedom. Thus giving us the means and methods to hop off that never ending merry-go-round, and feel our feet on firm ground.

Let’s just consider for a moment our own histories and growing up years. Each “age” or generation often experiences similar “growing pains”. For example, I remember well the day that JFK was assassinated, and most Americans that were teens or adults on that day (November 22, 1963) also remember it with clarity. Few kids today even know that JFK was president, much less assassinated. Will they ever know the wonder of JFK and Jackie? So we of that generation have an impression in our lives that we all share, and the planetary patterns of that day will forever stand as a memorial of that hour.

But to be a bit more specific, most teens living during those early years of the 60’s also experienced or had friends that shared many common experiences. Some of those experiences were less than ideal. Few families at that time experienced divorce or separations, but most of the dads had served in the second world war, and often were distant, strict or overbearing with their charges. Take a look at charts from that time and you will find many have aspects connecting to the 4th or 10th house that suggest family and parental issues. But the “wow” in this is that when you progress those same charts those aspect have moved or vanished and new aspects may suggest resolution, leadership, family support and positive outlook (9th house).

And this is one of life’s mysteries: WE change and we can be architects of our own change. Or on the other hand we can stay in our dark little rooms, afraid of ourselves, others and the greater world outside.

Astrology and astronomy were often indistinguishable before the modern era, with the desire for predictive and divinatory knowledge one of the primary motivating factors for astronomical observation.
